Opening Day

Saturday was Opening Day for the baseball season. Thomas is playing for the A's this year. Usually this is a full day affair - parade in the morning, exhibition game, carnival-like attractions, and lots of junk food for sale.

This year, because of the Stake Father/Son Campout, Thomas missed the parade (darn it ;)) and was only present for his game and our scheduled parking lot duties.

The rules were altered a bit for the games - each team would bat six players, starting with the bottom of the line up. We were the home team, so the other team batted first. Not a single one of their players got on base. Then, Thomas was up to bat first for our team.



He took a swing at the first pitch, and smacked it straight at the third baseman who proceeded to bobble the ball and drop it to the ground. Before he was able to correct himself, Thomas was on first base.



He got to second on a walk and got out as a result of running on a flyball to centerfield that was caught. The game ended with a tie score of two. I was really proud of Thomas for getting a solid hit and getting on base.

After the game, there was the carnival part of the day. Katelyn and Emily had been allowed to explore while Thomas played. When they came back to report their findings, they were very excited about the bull ride they had discovered. Of course we all went, with tickets in hand, to find this "bull" to ride.

Kids, of course, had a great time.
